Iron in water and processes for its removal

The removal of iron and manganese has been the subject of numerous papers over the last 50 years or more. Although this paper is entitled “Iron in Water and Processes for Its Removal”, we will also address manganese removal, since both elements frequently occur together and impart similar objectionable characteristics to water.

In this presentation we will attempt to provide an overview of the most common and accepted processes available for the removal of iron and manganese, their various advantages and disadvantages, and some practical advice to guide the choice of one process over another for a particular application.
